An 18th-century farm
Le Clos de Moncouche is an 18th-century farm: four buildings gathered around an enclosed courtyard, at the end of a lane that leads nowhere else — three habitable wings, each with its own door onto the courtyard, and a dovecote that isn't lived in. Before it was a farm, this place lived other lives: a former monastery, then a tobacco farm in the early 20th century. Alexandre's grandfather bought the house in the 1940s: it has been in the same family for three generations, even though that family now lives in Austria.
28 hectares with no overlooking neighbours, 16 km south of Périgueux and 37 km from Bergerac. The three wings share a courtyard, a private pool, a laundry room, and a large forest-bordered plot — enough space for a family or a group of friends to come together, while keeping a little independence if needed.
Three wings, one estate
Le Clos is rented in its entirety: you're not booking one wing separately, but the whole estate as a single private rental.

The most intimate of the three: heated only by a wood-burning insert (plus an electric heater in the bathroom), covered terrace.
The spirit of the house
Le Clos de Moncouche isn't a house repainted to look like a catalogue: the furniture has a history, the library's many books and vinyl records have been read and listened to, and the walls carry paintings, old and modern — street art included — as well as the family's own photos.
A stone house this old breathes. The doors, windows and ceilings aren't sealed tight the way a new building is: a little dust can gather between stays, and it isn't unusual for a small creature from the fields to let itself in for an evening. That is, for us, the price — and the charm — of a real country house rather than a sanitised apartment.
If you're looking for calm, space, an original decor and the time for a breakfast that goes on forever, you're exactly in the right place. If you expect the clinical cleanliness of a Parisian apartment, this is probably not the right address — and that's perfectly fine.

- Bedroom (140 cm double bed), shower room, kitchen open to the living room

Waste sorting
Waste sorting is mandatory in the Dordogne département. Instructions are given on site (the SMD3 app is used to open the underground bins — opening cost: €5.80 per 60 L bag). Please sort your waste correctly; fines apply otherwise.
